Los Mojitos performed as a duo of piano and bass guitar for the wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. The bride requested some nice songs for the entrance of the wedding party and we played Come Away With Me, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and she entered to Here Comes The Sun.

Last week Los Mojitos played our first Bar Mitzvah event here in Costa Rica! It was an interesting day for us. We played at 10am at the beautiful Westin Cochal Resort

It was a visiting family from New York that had the Bar Mitzvah and there were around 50-60 people there.

Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish celebration for when boys reach 13, they become responsible for their actions from a religious perspective and may lead prayer and other religious services in the family and the community. For girls the age is 12 and it is called a Bat Mitzvah. The age roughly coincides with puberty. Prior to a child reaching Bar or Bat Mitzvah, the child’s parents hold the responsibility for the child’s actions. After this age, children bear their own responsibility for Jewish ritual law, tradition, ethics and are able to participate in all areas of Jewish community life.

At the Westin Conchal hotel, the ceremony was held at 9am and then the band played for the luncheon. Los Mojitos played a mix of jazz, swing, pop as a trio of piano, bass and female vocals.

On Friday January 27th 2012 and Friday February 3 2012, the Canadian jazz vocalist Melinda Whitaker will be performing at La Finisterra Hotel in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Melinda will be visiting Costa Rica from Vancouver and she will be performing with local jazz group Los Mojitos, featuring Warren Alani on piano, Brad Moodie on bass and Don Bruch on jazz guitar.

Last night Los Mojitos performed for a wedding at Tierra Magnifica in Nosara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Nosara is about a two hour drive south of Liberia International Airport (LIR). Unfortunately access to Nosara is by a horrible dirt road which takes about an hour, but once you get there you’ll see that Tierra Magnifica is a beautiful spot.

Tierra Magnifica is a boutique hotel set up on a hilltop overlooking the ocean, with I think 10 rooms. It’s really a fantastic place with spectacular views!

Los Mojitos performed music for the event. We played as a guitar duet for the ceremony, then we added keyboards, saxophone and vocals for the dance reception.
