On Saturday April 8th, 2012 my musical group Los Mojitos performed for a wedding ceremony and cocktail reception at The Riu Guanacaste Hotel and Resort.

The hotel is located about a 30 minute drive south of Playas Del Coco and is about a 45 minute drive from Liberia International Airport (LIR). The hotel is fairly new, I think it opened around 2 years ago. For the first year the road was unpaved for the last 20 minutes, but now the whole road is is excellent shape.

The wedding was for a couple from The United States and I think there around 30 or 40 guests.

My group Los Mojitos performed as a duo of piano and bass guitar and we played a mix of easy listening romantic music as the guests waited for the bride. We played Ave Maria for the bridesmaid’s entrance, then we played Pachelbel’s Canon in D for the bride to enter. After the ceremony we played a mix of light pop, latin jazz and reggae for the cocktail hour.

Lots of times people want to get married on the many beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, but the Arenal area also has a number of hotels offering wedding packages with the dramatic rainforest and active volcano as a backdrop. Sometimes then the couple will have a honeymoon at the beach resorts.

Arenal Nayara is located near La Fortuna in the center of Costa Rica, about a 3 hour drive from either of the two international airports Liberia or San Jose. It’s also about a 3 hour drive to the beach resorts of Guanacaste, including Playas Del Coco, Tamarindo, Flamingo or Papagayo.
