I played at a wedding ceremony on Ocotal Beach last week. It was a small wedding of around 40 Americans and although June is part of the rainy season, we were lucky and didn’t get rained out. We were nervous about it though, because we could see the rain out over the Pacific Ocean and there was thunder and lightning in the distance. Fortunately the rain didn’t hit Ocotal Beach. Rainy season is May to November inclusive, which means there’s a chance there will be thunderstorms late in the afternoon, but it’s often sunny especially in the mornings and early afternoons.
The ceremony took place at 4pm on the beach at Ocotal, which is a black volcanic sand beach about 5 minutes past Playas Del Coco and about 40 minutes from Liberia International Airport (LIR) in the region of Guanacaste, an hour north of Tamarindo.
Then the dinner and reception was at Villa Cascada, which is a five minute walk from the beach. It’s a great venue for a small wedding. If you are interested in having a wedding at Villa Cascada you can talk to the general manager/wedding coordinator Guillermo Viquez at
